Welcome to Rocking Horse Cottage and Apartments

Rocking Horse Cottage is situated on 2 acres on the banks of Carnarvon Bay, Port Arthur, within walking distance of the Port Arthur Historic Site or 2 min by car and 70 min from Hobart.

It is a 2 storey cottage with 2 units - Vikings and Seafarers on the upper deck and Old Salts family unit on the lower deck.  This is a pet friendly unit with a secure back yard and pets are welcome on application at a nominal charge.

All units have glorious views to the beach at the bottom of the garden and across Carnarvon Bay to Pt Puer (the children's penitentiary), the Isle of the Dead and the entrance to Port Arthur.

It is a sublime location with pristine Possum Beach, a safe, sandy beach, at the doorstep with Jetty's and much boating activity in the vicinity.

The cottage is surrounded by a beautiful cottage garden and orchard with fresh organic fruit available in season.  We can offer a country experience with the help of our family members, Murphy the dog, Ollie the cat and Dardanelle our Waler horse, all who enjoy their visitors.

There is a communical BBQ with all implements provided for visitors.

Wonderful walks abound.  Try a leisurely stroll to Port Arthur via the beach and bush track, or to Pt Puer.  The Tasman Golf Course is 2 min away as are the cafes and restaurants of Port Arthur.  Also nearby is the wonderful Tasmanian Eco-Cruise which can take you around Tasman Island to view seals and the magnificient sea cliffs of the Tasman Peninsula.

The proprietors, Ben and Jacqui Kindblad are artisans who have been involved in the craft industry for many years and at Rocking Horse Cottage you can see or even purchase that special Tasmanian made memento, be it a painting, ceramic item or a piece of beautiful handcrafted woodwork.  Perhaps even a Rocking Horse - their speciality!

Rocking Horse is central to everything on the Tasman Peninsula and we are happy to help you enjoy your stay by booking any attraction for our visitors or helping you find that special walk or activity in this beautiful part of the world.  Just make sure you give yourself enough time to savour all the delights of this wonderful area.  A day is not enough but a day is better than none, so come and be welcome.  Or, why not split your stay and also spend time at the Convict Beach House on the other side of the peninsula and capture the wonderful beaches, coastline and more history in the ruins of the Historic Coal Mines.
